Indian Veterinary Association Kerala

The Kerala Veterinary Science Congress (KVSC) is a coveted annual scientific meet of the veterinary professionals functioning in the sectors of Veterinary, Animal and Wild Life Sciences organized by Indian Veterinary Association, Kerala, since 2003. Conducted meticulously during the month of November every year, the objective of this two-day event is to revitalize the Research and Development sector of Veterinary, Animal and Wild life sciences and to identifysolutions for the emerging challenges in the health care, management, production, welfare and one-health aspects of livestock, wild life and public health.

The first edition of Kerala Veterinary Science Congress held at Thrissur in 2003 was the brain child of Dr. T.S. Rajeev, formerly a Veterinary Surgeon and presently a faculty of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Extension at Kerala Veterinary & Animal Sciences University. The 1st Kerala Veterinary Science Congress conducted at College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences at Mannuthy, Thrissur, was an unforgettable part of the commemoration of the silver jubilee year of Indian Veterinary Association, Kerala.

The 2nd and 3rd editions of Kerala Veterinary Science Congress were hosted at Palakkad, “the land of forts”by Dr. Laiju M. Philip and Dr. K.Vijayakumar as the Organizing Secretaries, in the respective years of 2010 and 2011. In the year 2012, the event was organized at Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, by Dr. Theodore John as the Organizing Secretary. The 5th edition of Kerala Veterinary Science Congress was organized at Thrissur, ‘the cultural capital of Kerala”. The district of Kottayam popularly known as “the land of lakes, letters and latex” became the venue for the 6th Kerala Veterinary Science Congress and Dr. George Kurian was the Organizing Secretary.

The seventh edition of Kerala Veterinary Science Congress (7th KVSC) held at College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Pookode, Wayanad on 14th and 15th of November, 2015 was the first international edition of the Congress.. The event was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr). A.K.Srivastava, Director and Vice Chancellor of National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal, Haryana and attended by Directors of ICAR, Deans and faculty of various Veterinary Universities within the country and the Universities of Calgary, (Canada), Edinburgh (U.K.) and Edinburgh Napier University, (U.K.) abroad. The Organizing Secretary of 7th KVSC was Dr. Bindya Liz Abraham.

The eighth edition of Kerala Veterinary Science Congress (8th KVSC) was held at Hotel Dream City, Pattikkad, Thrissur on 12th and 13th of November, 2016 staging an effective platform for interaction among around 350 delegates, academicians, researchers, practitioners, wild life experts and policy makers from across the globe. Shri V.S.Sunil Kumar, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, Kerala inaugurated the valedictory function in the presence of Dr Koushikan I.A.S, District Collector, Thrissur. The event was inaugurated by Shri Devendra Chaudhry I.A.S, Secretary, Department of Dairying, Animal Husbandry & Fisheries, Govt India. Shri Anil.X, I.A.S, Vice Chancellor, Kerala Veterinary & Animal Sciences University and Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Govt of Kerala delivered the key note address. The proceedings of the science congress was released by Dr N.N. Sasi, Director of Animal Husbandry, Govt of Kerala. The Organizing Secretary of 8th KVSC was Dr. S. Sankaralingam, Assistant Professor (KVASU).

Kerala Veterinary Science Congress with it’s proud history of seven successful episodes has emerged as an important scientific meet of veterinarians from all walks of profession both within and outside the state of Kerala and now spreading its wings for a global participation. Being a joint effort of the field practitioners,veterinary academicians and researchers, the event has always been supported and felicitated passionately by the Chief Minister of the State, other ministerial dignitaries, Animal Husbandry Commissioner, Government of India, the technical heads of ICAR, Hon’ Vice Chancellors of various Universities and the heads of officesof the State departments as well as the public sector units under Government of Kerala.
